Bookkeeper / Tax Preparer (On-Site)
We are seeking a dependable Bookkeeper / Tax Preparer with hands-on experience to join our Senatobia office. This is an on‑site role supporting both ongoing bookkeeping clients and tax season preparation, working closely with our Office Manager and firm leadership.
This position is not an admin or scanning‑only role. It is best suited for someone who is comfortable with bookkeeping and preparing tax returns under review, enjoys structured workflows, and wants stable, long‑term work in a local office environment.
Job Summary
This role handles day‑to‑day bookkeeping for assigned clients, prepares straightforward tax returns for review, and supports core office operations including document intake and walk‑in clients. All work is prepared for review. This position does not make pricing decisions, sign returns, or take tax positions.
You’ll be a key part of keeping the office running smoothly and reducing bottlenecks during tax season.
Responsibilities
Bookkeeping Support
- Record and categorize transactions for multiple clients.
- Maintain monthly and year‑end bookkeeping checklists.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations under review.
- Maintain clean, well‑organized digital client records.
- Assist with onboarding new bookkeeping clients.
Tax Preparation (Under Review)
- Prepare straightforward individual returns (Form 1040).
- Assist with basic entity returns (1120‑S, 1065).
- Prepare extensions and organize supporting workpapers.
- Ensure returns are complete and ready for reviewer sign‑off.
- Follow firm procedures and documentation standards.
Payroll Support
- Assist with preparing payroll tax forms (941, 940, state filings).
Client Document Management & Office Support
- Greet walk‑in clients and manage document drop‑offs.
- Ensure client documents are properly labeled, uploaded, and routed to the correct workflow.
- Track missing information and follow up as directed.
- Answer phones and assist clients professionally.
- Support daily office operations and organization.
- Follow established procedures and checklists to ensure accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Experience using bookkeeping or accounting software (QuickBooks preferred).
- Experience preparing tax returns or directly assisting with tax preparation in a professional setting.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow checklists.
- Comfortable working on‑site and interacting with clients.
Preferred (Nice to Have, Not Required)
- Experience preparing 1040s, 1120‑S, or 1065 returns.
- Payroll or payroll tax exposure.
- Prior work in a CPA, tax, or bookkeeping firm.
- Experience working with paper‑heavy offices and walk‑ins.
Pay & Schedule
- $18.00 – $23.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Full‑time, on‑site role (approximately 32 hours per week) with a consistent weekday schedule.
