Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Part-Time Septic Pump Truck Operator to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will safely and efficiently pump, transport, and dispose of septic waste from residential and commercial systems using a vacuum/pump truck. The ideal candidate is comfortable with physical outdoor work, possesses a clean driving record, and is committed to providing excellent customer service while complying with all Illinois regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a septic pump truck (vacuum tanker) to perform septic tank pump-outs at customer locations.
- Locate, uncover, and access septic tanks; connect and maneuver heavy hoses; operate pumping equipment.
- Transport and properly dispose of wastewater at approved treatment or disposal facilities.
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, routine maintenance, and cleaning of the truck and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, waste volumes, and disposal manifests in compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and local regulations.
- Provide professional customer service, including explaining the pumping process and answering basic questions about septic system maintenance.
- Respond to occasional emergency or after-hours calls as needed (with additional compensation).
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and handling of biohazardous materials.
- Assist with minor related tasks such as basic septic system inspections or equipment loading as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B with Tanker endorsement required. Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Illinois Private Sewage Disposal Pumping Contractor License (or ability to obtain one promptly) – Required for pumping, hauling, and disposing of septic waste in Illinois.
- Previous experience operating vacuum trucks, tanker trucks, or in the septic/wastewater industry is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily routes efficiently.
- Strong attention to safety, reliability, and professionalism.
- Physical fitness: Must be able to lift 50 lbs, drag heavy hoses, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort with routine vehicle/equipment maintenance.
- Willingness to undergo background check and drug screening.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with septic system components and common issues.
- Customer service experience.
- Knowledge of Illinois septic regulations and waste hauling requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay: $20–$28 per hour (depending on experience and licensing).
