Position Overview

Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to support a mission-critical federal program in Chantilly, VA. This role operates within a secure Agile development environment and provides technical leadership across the design, development, integration, and sustainment of complex software solutions.

The Lead Software Engineer will be responsible for guiding architectural decisions, leading development efforts, mentoring engineers, and ensuring delivery of secure, scalable, and high-performance applications that support mission objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-level software solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers across the development lifecycle.
• Translate system and functional requirements into scalable software architectures and detailed designs.
• Collaborate with system architects and stakeholders to define and evolve application architecture.
• Ensure software solutions comply with security, performance, and risk management standards, including Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) processes.
• Lead code reviews, enforce development standards, and promote best practices in secure software development.
• Oversee integration of software components with external systems, services, and data sources.
• Support deployment, troubleshooting, and sustainment of applications in production environments.
• Contribute to technical documentation, design artifacts, and operational guides.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated experience leading software development efforts for complex systems or enterprise applications.
• Strong proficiency in object-oriented software development and modern application frameworks.
• Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable software architectures.
• Experience working within Agile development teams and iterative delivery models.
• Strong understanding of system interfaces, APIs, and data integration patterns.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• Equivalent professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Skills

• Experience supporting classified or mission-critical programs.
• Familiarity with cloud-native or hybrid environments.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and automated build/deployment tools.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and secure software development methodologies.
