JOB SUMMARY:

This part-time, temporary position will work in partnership with Mountain Youth Network (MYN) staff, TREK Teen Council (TREK), local youth-serving organizations, and the community. The focus of the work includes, but is not limited to, providing youth representation and voice throughout the community for specific campaigns and projects regarding topics like substance use prevention, which may include presentations and content creation.

The MYN Youth Representative is responsible for providing youth expertise and feedback. Inherent to this job is a focus on the development of professional skills in speaking and writing, such as group/team facilitation, providing recommendations, presenting as a youth expert, collaboration, and other relevant skills needed to effectively carry out the duties of this position.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Work in partnership with Mountain Youth Network (MYN) team
    • Provide and amplify the youth voice within the MYN coalition
    • Advise on best practices for increasing authentic engagement of young people in MYN activities and operations (strengths-based opportunities for youth)
  • Support TREK Teen Council operations
    • Assist with the creation of presentations for community presentations (TREK Talks) and outreach events, specifically around tobacco cessation
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Current high school student.

AGE:Must be 14 or more years old.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience and interest in providing youth voice and youth perspective
  • Excellent grammar and writing skills
  • Public speaking experience, preferred

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must pass background check: Criminal and Traffic, if applicable

Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment

Required legal authorization to work -United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Work may require meeting deadlines set by others and participation in evening meetings.

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: standing, walking, sitting, driving passenger vehicles, keyboarding, bending, and stretching. Must be physically able to lift, carry, push or pulling up to 40 pounds. Clear vision at 20 inches or less and up to 20 feet or more, use of corrective eye wear is acceptable. Work includes hearing voice either in person or via telephone conversations. Occasionally requires travel for business related issues.
