Clean Harbors is seeking an InSite Operations Manager I to lead and oversee onsite hazardous materials and waste program operations at a customer facility. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the client, providing day-to-day program leadership, ensuring compliance, managing onsite personnel, and coordinating waste, inventory, and logistics activities to support safe and efficient operations.

The ideal candidate will bring strong environmental compliance knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a client-facing setting. This individual will be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting safety initiatives, managing staff performance and development, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across the program.

Starting Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 salary DOE

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Clean Harbors onsite activities at the customer location and manage the InSite team supporting the program.
  • Ensure compliance and coordination of waste collections at satellite accumulation areas (points of generation) and provide oversight of multiple central accumulation areas.
  • Manage cradle-to-grave hazardous waste operations, including waste generation, storage, packaging, labeling, tracking, shipment coordination, and disposal.
  • Conduct waste profiling and periodic waste stream reviews to ensure regulatory compliance and the use of best-value disposal technologies.
  • Schedule and coordinate internal and external waste shipments, working closely with internal business partners, transportation resources, disposal outlets, and customer representatives.
  • Provide small-scale emergency response support during business hours, including the use of PPE as required.
  • Lead, administer, and support daily, weekly, and monthly site inspections to maintain compliance, housekeeping, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain program documentation, operating records, inspection logs, and other required records to support compliance and internal/external audits.
  • Lead safety meetings, tailgates, and related safety activities to reinforce Clean Harbors’ safety culture and site expectations.
  • Present program performance, business updates, and service results to the customer on a quarterly basis.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer representatives at all levels, ensuring strong communication, issue resolution, and end-to-end service satisfaction.
  • Manage onsite personnel, currently a team of four, including scheduling, training, development, performance management, appraisals, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Coordinate logistical support and cross-functional resources within local and broader business networks to meet customer needs and maintain service continuity.
  • Manage inventory operations, including receiving deliveries, checking in inventory, and delivering and tracking virgin products to point-of-use locations.
  • Maintain adequate levels of equipment, supplies, and materials required to support routine operations and special projects.
  • Support the customer with reporting needs, including waste tracking and other environmental compliance documentation as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall program success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in environmental services, hazardous waste management, onsite program management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with responsibility for supervising, developing, and managing employees.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA, DOT, and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Experience managing hazardous waste accumulation areas, inspections, waste profiling, shipment coordination, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across multiple levels of a client organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound decisions, and work independently in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications and standard business/computer tools.
  • Working knowledge of financial and operational metrics, including cost awareness and service efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or C) with hazardous materials endorsement.
  • Experience managing onsite/InSite-style environmental programs at customer facilities.
  • Experience leading safety meetings, customer reviews, and regulatory or client audit preparation.
  • Experience in inventory control and point-of-use product tracking within an industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or technical service environment.

Salary : $48,750 - $138,857
