Note: This position is open to qualified CERSD employees from April 8- April 14, 2025. Applications submitted from outside the district will not be considered until April 15, 2025. First review of applications will be April 29th and interviews will be scheduled to selected qualified applicants. The position is open until filled.


Reports to: High School Principal


Position Overview:

The Career Information Specialist plays a key role in supporting students in planning their futures by providing resources, information, marketing and communications, and direct guidance on career and postsecondary opportunities. This position also provides essential administrative and organizational support to the high school counseling team. Evening events are required with this position. This position serves grades 7-12 students.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Student & Parent Support

  • Assist the high school counselor in scheduling students and parents for academic advising, Running Start, and dual-credit programs.
  • Helps the high school principal and counselors in master schedule development.
  • Provide direct support for college and career planning, including academic pathway guidance, course selection, and postsecondary transition planning.
  • Promote a college-going and career-readiness culture through workshops, presentations, and personalized support.
  • Organize and facilitate parent and student information nights on career pathways, financial aid, scholarships, and college admissions.

2) College & Career Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Career Center that provides students with access to information on careers, colleges, technical schools, military opportunities, and apprenticeships.
  • Organize and host career fairs, college recruiter events, and military recruiter visits to expand students’ awareness of opportunities.
  • Assist students in completing applications and tracking deadlines for college admissions, common application, financial aid (FAFSA/WASFA), SAT/ACT, scholarships, and internships.
  • Coordinate and maintain a Job Board with employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities for students.
  • Work and teach with teachers to develop a career portfolio system that helps students document their skills, experiences, and postsecondary plans.
  • Helps plan, facilitate and support High School and Beyond Planning, and school advisory program.

3) School-to-Work & Experiential Learning

  • Work with certificated staff to design and implement a 9-12 grade school-to-work program.
  • Support students in securing job shadows, internships, volunteer roles, and employment opportunities that align with their interests.
  • Facilitate administration of vocational aptitude and career interest assessments to help guide students in their decision-making.

4) Data Management & Administrative Support

  • Support the counseling team with data entry, Skyward database reporting, and master schedule building.
  • Maintain necessary student records, including career portfolios, participation records, and performance data for annual reporting.
  • Assist in the coordination of scholarship offerings and maintain accurate scholarship tracking records.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining Career and Counseling Center marketing materials and outreach efforts.
  • Assists the districts assessment coordinator with facilitation of assessments, proctoring, training, data entry, and accommodations support.
  • Assist the CTE Director with CTE frameworks, reporting, compliance, and data entry as well as supporting events like CTE advisory meetings and CTE showcases.

5) Student Recognition & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate student recognition programs to celebrate achievements in college and career readiness.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, community, and students, ensuring timely communication about opportunities and resources.
  • Locate and share resources that support career development and student success.

6) Other Responsibilities

  • Provide general student supervision as needed.
  • Participate in the MTSS and PBIS teams as a facilitator, support, and interventionist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain Career Center and Guidance Counseling webpages and marketing materials of Career Center and Guidance department.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prefered ESA counselor credential or previous guidance counseling experience
  • Experience working effectively with middle and high school students.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and data management (experience with Skyward or other student information systems is a plus). Creating and reading spreadsheets and typing proficiency are required.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Warm and inviting personality and a positive customer service approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.


Terms of Employment:

  • Affiliation: PSE Classified Union
  • Days: 7 hours a day, 5 days a week
  • Hourly rate enhancement: credit for college degrees or certifications per PSE contract. Max is based on 25 years of in district experience.
  • Contract: 193 Day classified contracted calendar
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance through SEBB*
  • Sick/Personal Days: up to 12 sick days per school year and up to 3 personal days per year.
  • Retirement: Two plan choice available with DRS, Plan 2 and 3.
  • Holidays: Up to 11 holidays per year.

  • August 2025 with exact start date provided by June 2025.

  • Benefits through SEBB is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to
work during the school year. Any employee who is scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a
school year (September 1 through August 31) is eligible for benefits.
