Engineering Firm Operations Manager

CLC Engineering, LLC – Alexandria, Louisiana

Lead. Build. Engineer. Make an Impact.

CLC Engineering, LLC is a growing civil and structural engineering firm located in Alexandria, Louisiana, specializing in the physical civil and structural design of high-voltage electrical substations and switchyards.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated Professional Engineer (PE) to join our team as an Engineering Operations Manager / Senior Project Engineer.

This is a key leadership position for an engineer who enjoys both leading people and projects AND staying involved in the technical side of engineering.

The ideal candidate is a confident decision-maker, strong communicator, and experienced engineering leader who can help drive the day-to-day operations of our engineering team while working closely with company leadership, clients, engineers, designers, and contractors.

This is an opportunity to become an integral part of a growing engineering firm and have a direct impact on how projects are planned, staffed, engineered, executed, and delivered.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As Engineering Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Company President to oversee engineering operations, support business development, manage resources, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to CLC Engineering's quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage engineering and design staff while helping build a high-performing team.
  • Plan, schedule, and forecast engineering workloads and staffing needs.
  • Assign projects and technical responsibilities based on employee strengths, experience, and project requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and overall project performance.
  • Develop and oversee project management plans and operational procedures.
  • Review projects for compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and performance requirements.
  • Work directly with the President and Vice President on project proposals, quotes, client relationships, change orders, and business decisions.
  • Help identify potential project issues before they become problems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, designers, contractors, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical engineering support and step into project engineering and design work when needed.
  • Assist with developing and implementing annual and long-term strategic business plans.
  • Help improve internal processes, efficiency, quality control, and overall operational excellence.
  • Monitor employee workload and resource allocation to ensure projects remain properly staffed and deadlines are met.
  • Assist with hiring, training, development, and performance management of engineering personnel.
  • Establish priorities and provide direction when multiple projects and deadlines compete for resources.
  • Serve as a key member of the company leadership team.
  • Act as a trusted partner and right-hand to the Company President on operational, technical, and management matters.
  • Travel up to approximately 25% as needed.

THIS IS MORE THAN A MANAGEMENT POSITION

We are looking for someone who still enjoys engineering.

This is not a desk-only management position where your job ends with assigning work.

Our Operations Manager needs to understand the technical challenges our engineers and designers face, provide guidance, review engineering work, solve problems, and jump in and perform engineering work when the team needs additional support.

You should be comfortable moving between engineering, project management, employee leadership, client communication, and company operations.

If you enjoy solving difficult engineering problems, mentoring other engineers, managing projects, working directly with clients, and helping shape the future of a company, this could be an excellent fit.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORRequired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year university.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 5–15 years of progressive engineering leadership, management, or project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil and/or structural engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the high-voltage physical substation and switchyard design.
  • Experience managing engineering projects, teams, schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design, project execution, applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, delegate, prioritize, and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, engineers, designers, contractors, and company leadership.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with engineering design and visualization software.
  • AutoCAD experience .
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as a collaborative member of the leadership team.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on engineering work when required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.

Employment Eligibility & Communication Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • CLC Engineering does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Fluent English proficiency is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with clients, engineers, designers, contractors, and company leadership.
  • Must be able to independently read, interpret, prepare, and review technical engineering documents, specifications, correspondence, reports, and project documentation in English.

WHY JOIN CLC ENGINEERING?

At CLC Engineering, you'll have the opportunity to be more than an employee—you'll be a key contributor to the growth and direction of the company.

You'll work directly with company leadership, have a voice in operational decisions, influence how projects are executed, and help develop the engineers and designers around you.

This is an opportunity for an experienced PE to have a real seat at the table and play a meaningful role in the future of the company.

We are looking for someone who wants to build something, not simply manage something that already exists.

If you're an experienced PE who is ready to take the next step in your career, enjoys both engineering and leadership, and wants a position where your experience, technical knowledge, and decisions genuinely matter, we'd like to hear from you.
