Job Summary
The Teacher/Director is responsible for, the daily operation and overall management of the classroom, planning, preparing, and implementing curriculum, supervising children at all times to ensure safety and engagement, and leading, directing, and supporting parent co-op participants.
This role must be carried out in accordance with, California Community Care Licensing (Title 22), School By-Laws and Standing Rules, CVPP Membership Manual, Facility Use Agreement, and The CVPP Teacher/Director Handbook.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the children’s preschool, within NAEYC guidelines; stay current on preschool/kindergarten requirements and continue education on developing research, methods, techniques, and philosophies.
- Attends preschool each day the school is in session, facilitating the preschool’s daily schedule, supervising free play, clean-up, and leading group activities with the children, creating a positive climate for children and adults.
- Monitor and evaluate children’s progress, handle all social behaviors, and protect the privacy of parents and children alike.
- Delegate, supervise, educate, guide and support co-op participants toward better techniques of working with children by modeling appropriate interaction with children, making suggestions that will help parents work effectively in the classroom and with children.
- Partner with the Teacher’s Aide to create a nurturing, engaging, and safe learning environment that supports the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child.
- Attend monthly Board and general meetings, school functions/events. Promote parent education during our regular meetings, and/or through in-class observations.
- Ensure that the school is at all times in compliance with current licensing requirements, rules and regulations; Conduct monthly fire safety procedures, and maintain all required documents and daily records.
- Opens/Closes the school.
- Ensure qualified teachers are available to act as substitutes in your absence.
- Works closely with the Board regarding education programs, maintaining school equipment/supplies, and any other mutually agreed responsibilities.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.
Pre-K Session Hours: M/W/F 8:30 - 12:30
Preschool Session Hours: T/Th 8:30 - 12:00
3-week Summer Session (optional)
Requirements / Qualifications
- 1-4 years teaching in a preschool, preferred.
- *15 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units(*of which Three (3) Units must be in Administration or Staff Relations)
- AA, BA or higher degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- CPR & First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain.
- 15 hours of Health & Safety training completed.
- Additional training in Preventative Health courses, Caring for Special Needs, Childhood Nutrition, preferred.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Child Development and instruction materials in Parent Education, Kindergarten Readiness Skills, and Effective Parenting Strategies.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with co-op participants.
- Excellent communication skills, calming and positive presence.
