JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to perform inspection and rehabilitation of wastewater manholes in the conveyance system and to assist with sanitary sewer overflow remediation, smoke testing, dye testing, odor complaints, and creek water sampling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Locates and inspects sewer manholes, forces mains and air release valves for inflow; utilizes smart covers, flow meters; conducts smoke and dye tests; walks sewer lines; verifies condition of infrastructure; troubleshoots sewer odors; collects data in electronic formats; and identifies any deficiencies or needed repairs.
- Inspects manholes; measures depth; counts lines and taps in/out; looks for corrosion, clogs, root infiltration, cracks, and grease clogs; collects and records information; creates work orders in order to address particular issues; and uses chemicals to remove roots and grease build-up.
- Cleans easements.
- Cuts and clear rights-of-way of sewer lines to locate manholes; ensures access to manholes at all times.
- Performs related activities; downloads data formats for daily work activities from the GIS system; collects data from the Collection System in an electronic format; and creates work orders for repairs.
- Flags and directs traffic; places markers, signs, and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public.
- Gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up, loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools and supplies; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs as needed; and notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.
- Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains truck, Polaris ATV, pole camera, smoke blower, gas detector, machete, bush axe, shovels, rakes, wrenches, and other tools and equipment.
- Assists crews with the use of jet trucks.
- Performs duties of Crew Leader when absent.
- Performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer lines and related systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s licenses.
- Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Tasks involve some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; tasks also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
- Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
- This position works on call as assigned.
