Position: Senior Engineering Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to conduct and provide guidance in planning, designing, reviewing, and revising electronic drawings, and AutoCAD for water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems and to assist customers with water and sewer inquiries.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Creates and prepares drawings (topographical, plan, profile) to be used in construction projects such as water lines, sewage lines, and some storm sewers.

Drafting of engineering plans; preparing construction plans for large capital projects of water, wastewater, and stormwater replacements and associated easements and permit drawings.

Provides assistance in customer service; addresses questions that may arise in selling water meters and sewer taps.

Coordinates with engineering consultants and governmental agencies to obtain vital technical information; interfaces with governmental agencies to ensure project compliance with federal, state, and local laws, codes, and standards.

Plans and prepares computer designs of water lines, meter installations, gravity sewer lines, sewer force mains, sewer pumping stations, and stormwater lines utilizing AutoCAD or Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Serves as a liaison between the organization and its customers by providing key information regarding residential development; provides support and technical assistance to customers and CCWA staff including water and sewer locations, service availability, meter quotes, etc.; and develops sewer availability, sewer connectivity letters, and cost estimates upon request from customers.

Builds relationships and networks that fosters synergy amongst project members.

Prepares and submits applications to the Department of Transportation, railroad, and other utilities for encroachment permits.

Reviews construction documents for accuracy, applicability, completeness, and constructability.

Provides documentation and administrative support such as recording plats and easements, developing and maintaining AutoCAD standards, and updating web site for design standards and specifications.

Completes special projects including professionally designed GIS maps and graphics for presentations including board meeting.

Provides technical documentation for project management.

Assists in asset management by developing and maintaining infrastructure database utilizing GIS.

Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

High School or GED required, plus three (3) years of related work experience in computer-aided design; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Skills in using ACAD, ACAD Civil3d, ArcMap 16, Microsoft Office, and MicroStation.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Licenses/Certifications:

Erosion and Sediment Control Level 2 (required within 6 months of hire).

Valid Georgia Driver's license (preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, one must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, then he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time. Tasks typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, or machinery.

Work is performed in a relatively safe, secure, and stable work environment.
