POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health and Physical Education (Health/PE) Coordinator provides leadership, planning, and oversight for the district's health and physical education programs. This position is responsible for ensuring curriculum alignment with state and local standards, supporting instructional excellence, promoting student wellness, coordinating professional development, ensuring equity, inclusion, and accessibility within Health and PE programs, and monitoring program effectiveness. Additionally, the coordinator ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local mandates, regulations, policies, and reporting requirements related to health education and physical education. The Health/PE Coordinator collaborates with administrators, teachers, students, families, and community partners to develop and implement comprehensive health and physical education initiatives that foster lifelong wellness, physical fitness, and healthy decision-making among students. This position reports to the Executive Director of Academic Design (Elementary).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Leadership, Program Development, and Strategic Planning

  • Leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of K–12 Health and Physical Education curriculum, instructional programs, and assessments aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence, district priorities, and best practices.
  • Coordinates, writes, revises, and maintains curriculum guides, pacing resources, instructional frameworks, lesson exemplars, assessment tools, and instructional materials.
  • Establishes and monitors long- and short-range goals that support student wellness, physical fitness, health literacy, and achievement.
  • Ensures alignment among curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and district strategic priorities.
  • Analyzes multiple data sources to identify needs and develop resources, supports, and strategies that improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Professional Learning, Instructional Support, and Program Evaluation

  • Designs, facilitates, and coordinates professional learning opportunities that strengthen instructional practices, content knowledge, and student engagement.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, technical assistance, and instructional support to teachers.
  • Conducts school site visits, classroom observations, and program reviews to provide actionable feedback and support continuous improvement.
  • Develops and disseminates assessment tools, instructional resources, and program evaluation materials.
  • Supports implementation of district instructional frameworks, standards-based instruction, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Provides orientation and training on newly adopted instructional materials and resources.

Compliance, Accountability, and Data Management

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and reporting requirements related to Health and Physical Education.
  • Coordinates the implementation, administration, reporting, and data entry requirements of the FIT Georgia Assessment and other required accountability measures.
  • Oversees the collection, analysis, maintenance, and submission of required program data and reports.
  • Collaborates with school and district leaders to ensure compliance with wellness policies, health education requirements, physical education mandates, and related accountability expectations.

Resource and Budget Management

  • Evaluates instructional materials, textbooks, fitness equipment, technology, and other resources for adoption and implementation.
  • Develops specifications for purchasing appropriate instructional materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitors departmental budgets and ensures schools have access to quality resources that support Health and Physical Education programs.

District Wellness Initiatives, Partnerships, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinates district-wide health, wellness, fitness, and physical activity initiatives, events, and partnerships.
  • Serves as a district resource for administrators, teachers, families, community partners, and other stakeholders regarding Health and Physical Education programs and initiatives.
  • Promotes awareness of district Health and Physical Education initiatives through communication, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represents the district in professional organizations, committees, conferences, collaborative partnerships, and School Board meetings.

Performs all other duties as assigned and required to support the goals and objectives of the Department of Elementary Academics and the District.

 

Master’s degree required; concentration in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field preferred.

 

 

Minimum of five years of teaching experience in Health and/or Physical Education required; district-level coordination experience preferred.Makes decisions and final recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others.

 

Valid, renewable Georgia Professional Standards Commission teaching certification at Level 5 or higher in Health and Physical Education or a related field required.

 

High level of judgment required; supervisor is available on limited time basis; individual is required to establish and evaluate departmental and organizational objectives; independent judgment is required to review and approve major recommendations.

 

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.

Responsible for supervising multiple functions with a high-level of accountability for effective operation and results. Requires excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

 

Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District.

 

Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.

 

Normal Office setting. School site visitations possible.

 

Moderate duty - On most occasions walking or standing; intermittently sitting, standing, or

stooping. May be required to engage in physical exertion related to the position.

 

Moderate lifting or carrying 20-30 lbs. frequently; moderate lifting or carrying 50 lbs. or less

occasionally.

 

NOTE: This is a grade 30, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 16.

Salary : $80,071 - $123,882
