POSITION SUMMARY:
The Adapted Sports Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering inclusive athletic and recreational programs for individuals with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. This role emphasizes the development of physical fitness, teamwork, confidence, and skill through adaptive sports activities that accommodate diverse abilities. The coach will modify traditional sports techniques and equipment as needed to ensure full participation and safety for all athletes following regulations of Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and American Association of Adapted Sports Program (AAASP).
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical education, therapeutic recreation, or coaching, along with experience working with individuals with disabilities. Compassion, creativity, and strong communication skills are essential for fostering a positive and empowering environment.
Assistant Coach position reports to Head Coach. Head Coach position reports to the Program Athletic Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides instruction and coaching to K-12 students with disabilities on the fundamentals of various sports. Collaborates with the coaching staff to establish team rules, policies, and procedures.
Oversees the coordination and supervision of practice schedules and maintains supervisory responsibility for assigned athletes and teams. Exercises discretion in determining athlete placement and participation in specific sports.
Advises and supports K-12 student athletes making informed decisions about continued participation in sports at levels that align with their individual abilities and goals.
Collaborates closely with staff to coordinate program activities and identify opportunities for student engagement and development. Proactively initiates actions and improvements as appropriate.
Oversees the proper registration process for athletes and ensures the systematic issuance and management of athletic equipment. Coordinates and monitors team qualifications to ensure fairness and compliance with program guidelines outlined by AAASP.
Collaborates with partners to monitor the effectiveness of program delivery and promote healthy lifestyle outcomes.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience in coaching or playing assigned sport preferred. Experience with inventory of equipment and scheduling preferred.
Ability to manage projects and duties with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively manage time and priorities. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Must hold or be eligible for GaPSC Certification Level 4 or higher in Special Education, Orthopedic Impairments, Adapted Physical Education, Physical Education.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with intra-organizational teams.

Responsible for multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipment and staff as needed) with a high-level accountability for effective operation and results.
Limited Use of Technology Applications.
Constant (Daily) responsibility for the welfare of others.
Variable work enviornment - office setting, school grounds, stadiums, etc. Requires frequent travel for off-site competition / training locations. Work requires physical effor 70% of the time or more outdoors. Moderate (fifty [50] lbs or less) to heavy (one-hundred [100] lbs. or less) lifting required based on sport.
