What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician position at CLAYTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides accounting payroll support to assigned schools within the District. Ensures the efficient and effective functioning of all operational areas of the Payroll Department. Acts as a liaison with internal and external contacts for the District. This position reports to the Payroll Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes and maintains accurate records of financial and payroll transactions for each assigned school/location for each employee within an assigned school or department. Trains school bookkeepers/payroll clerks on payroll procedures. Communicates with administrators, school personnel and legal consultants confidentially. Prepares and conducts informational training for CCPS employees on payroll procedures and practices.
Calculates employees’ salaries from salary scales, classifications, certificates and experience; processes Teacher Retirement forms upon terminations & retirement of employees.
Processes changes for each school and department based on Personnel Action Forms; balances monthly worksheets to edits. Meets deadlines for payroll processing (no exceptions). Posts and balances annuities, credit union, and other deductions for payment by monthly deadline. Corresponds confidentially with legal entities regarding bankruptcies, garnishments, student loans, child support and tax levies etc. Cross trains in managerial duties.
Assists Payroll technicians during their absence. Types letters, memos, reports, etc. Organizes and maintains files and records efficiently.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED certificate required. Associate’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years experience in General payroll, accounting and/or bookkeeping training required. Experience in a K-12 public school environment preferred.
Makes administrative decisions which affect internal operations of the department as well as the operations of the schools and the District.
Independent judgment is necessary. Decisions made on an as-needed basis to establish operation of the office.
Requires regular contact with internal personnel within department. Verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required.
Create, recommends, implements and applies technology knowledge (spreadsheets, word processing, and database management) concepts to improve the effectiveness of the Department.
NOTE: This position is a Grade 22 position/225 days and does not pay for education and experience.
