Position: Long-Term Substitute, Elementary Special Education Teacher
Position Summary
Wayland Public Schools is seeking a qualified Long-Term Substitute Special Educator to provide direct instruction for students with special needs in inclusion settings through collaborative co-teaching, push in and pull out support. The educator will collaborate with general education teachers and teaching assistants to design and deliver specialized instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
- Instruction: Utilizing differentiated instruction and modifications to ensure students have access to general education curriculum. Design and implement specially designed instruction based on students’ IEP goals and needs. Experience in multi modal instruction including discrete trial instruction, hands on learning, and generalization support is preferred.
- IEP Management: Manage the IEP process, including participating in TEAM meetings, administering diagnostic assessments, and writing comprehensive reports, IEPs and progress reports
- Collaboration: Partner effectively with general education teachers, specialists, counseling staff, and families to ensure student success and inclusion.
- Supervision: Guide and supervise Teaching Assistants and support staff assigned to the caseload.
- Environment: Foster an inclusive and equitable classroom environment that supports academic growth and a sense of belonging for all students.
Qualifications
- Licensure: Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate Special Education and MA DESE SEI Endorsement required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
- Experience teaching students with disabilities
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience teaching students with disabilities..
- Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Instructional Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of early literacy instruction, and early numeracy development. Experience in ABA Methodologies and multimodal teaching including discrete trial instruction, hands on learning, and generalization support is preferred.
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.
Education and Experience:
- Advanced Degree: Master's degree preferred.
- DESE Licensure: Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate Special Education
- SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Salary: Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Wayland Teachers’ Association (WTA) collective bargaining agreement. Example: Master’s through Master’s 30 range $95,754 - $126,651
- Work Schedule: 2026–2027 School Year; school-year schedule in alignment with the WEA contract Unit A
