Title: Extended School Year Teacher Assistant - Milestones Program
Position Summary:
As an ESY Paraprofessional, you will work closely with special education teachers and other staff to support students with diverse learning needs. Your role will include assisting with
individualized instruction, promoting positive behaviors, and helping students develop their
academic, social, and daily living skills. You will provide essential support both inside and outside the classroom and help create a positive, inclusive environment for all students.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
- Assist students with special needs in following the curriculum and completing assignments.
- Support students in the classroom, including providing one-on-one or small group
assistance.
- Help students with physical tasks as needed, such as transitioning between activities,
moving between classrooms, or using assistive technology.
- Support students in developing social skills, behavioral strategies, and emotional
regulation.
- Reinforce the teacher’s lessons and activities by providing additional instruction,
guidance, or practice as necessary.
-Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide feedback to the teacher on
student progress.
- Help manage classroom behavior and implement behavior intervention strategies.
- Assist with personal care, mobility, or other daily activities when necessary.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, or field trips.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report concerns or observations to the
teacher or special education staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to meet the needs
of students.
-Assist with organizing classroom materials and ensuring the classroom is conducive to
learning.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associates degree preferred, but not required
- Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
- Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Hours: 8:30-1:30
- Dates: June 29 - August 7th
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday:
- Salary: $29.48/hour
