JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, responsible for Sheriff’s office buildings and grounds. Incumbents must work under a Tech II at an apprentice level to gain skills in, but not limited to, HVAC, Plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, landscaping, automated controls and basic audio visual networks to build, maintain, repair, and construct within CCSO facilities to fulfill work requests. This position will be on standby for all 10-100’s and may respond to incidents and emergencies, and serves as “Essential Personnel” during major storms and hurricanes. This is an entry level position and training will be provided. Once all other qualifications are met and one year as a Tech I has passed Incumbents will be eligible for a transfer to Tech II.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts routine facility maintenance and safety inspections, documenting and prioritizing issues based on agency policies, manufacturer recommendations, and regulatory guidelines.
- Identifies and reports maintenance, safety, and compliance concerns, ensuring timely resolution by coordinating with appropriate personnel or departments.
- Maintains and repairs security equipment (e.g., locks, cameras, gates) to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
- Performs maintenance tasks, such as replacing light fixtures, painting, drywall installation, and repairing furniture, adhering to safety standards and minimizing operational disruptions.
- Maintains outdoor sprinkler systems and performs small engine repairs on equipment like chainsaws, blowers, and portable generators.
- Ensures agency grounds are clean, safe, and professionally maintained, particularly during routine operations, hurricane preparation, and cleanup.
- Moves, transports, and discards furniture and equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper handling and delivery.
- Escorts vendors and contractors performing work on agency property, ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
- Completes custodial duties as needed to maintain clean and safe facilities in accordance with FMJS requirements.
- Maintains accurate daily activity logs, detailing work performed, materials used, and time spent on each task to ensure proper documentation and accountability.
- Processes incoming and outgoing documents in a timely manner, following supervisory direction and agency procedures.
- Adheres to preventative maintenance schedules and updates supervisors on noteworthy issues or incidents.
- Actively participates in job-specific training and completes required certifications, utilizing both online and in-person learning platforms.
- Remains on-site during natural disasters, severe weather, and emergencies, ensuring the safety and functionality of the facility.
- Prioritizes maintenance requests based on urgency and safety concerns to meet agency and legal obligations.
- Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, and ethical behavior in all interactions with the public, colleagues, and agency personnel.
- Respects cultural, religious, and gender differences when engaging with coworkers and the public.
- Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and participates in cross-training to enhance teamwork and operational efficiency.

LICENCES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or its equivalent required.
- Proficient in Microsoft office products
- Speak and understand the English language.
- One (1) year of relevant work experience in general building maintenance required or education and certifications in job-relevant specialties (i.e., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, locks, welding, or carpentry) may substitute for experience.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
