Project Designer

Claudia Howard Interiors LLC
Austin, TX Contractor
POSTED ON 9/12/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/10/2027

ABOUT THE ROLE

Claudia Howard Interiors is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Project Designer to join our boutique interior design studio.

This is a hands-on role for someone who understands both the creative and technical sides of interior design. The most important part of this position is the ability to produce accurate, detailed, and well-organized construction drawings in AutoCAD, primarily for high-end residential projects, with some familiarity with small-scale commercial and hospitality projects.

You will work closely with the Principal Designer throughout the design process, supporting projects from early design development through construction documentation and implementation. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, proactive, curious, and excited to grow within a boutique design studio.

We are looking for someone who doesn’t simply wait for instructions, but takes ownership of their work, asks thoughtful questions, identifies potential issues, and looks for ways to make the project better.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Technical Design & Construction Documentation

  • Create accurate and detailed construction drawings in AutoCAD
  • Develop and maintain furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, interior elevations, millwork details, finish plans, and other construction documentation as required
  • Translate design concepts and markups into clear, buildable drawings
  • Coordinate drawings and information with architectural, builder, and consultant documentation
  • Review drawings for accuracy, dimensions, notes, coordination, and completeness
  • Incorporate revisions and respond to project changes efficiently
  • Maintain organized and consistent CAD files and drawing standards

Design Development & Presentations

  • Assist with the development of design concepts and design presentations
  • Create polished mood boards, material palettes, and client presentation materials
  • Research furniture, lighting, plumbing, hardware, finishes, textiles, accessories, and other products
  • Source products that align with the project’s aesthetic, budget, scale, and technical requirements
  • Support the Principal Designer in developing design options and project solutions

Schedules & Specifications

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project schedules in Programa
  • Develop furniture, lighting, plumbing, finish, hardware, and other project schedules
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of specification books
  • Ensure product information, dimensions, finishes, pricing, lead times, and other specifications are accurate and up to date
  • Research and verify product information with manufacturers and vendors

Project & Team Support

  • Support projects through the various phases of the design process
  • Communicate professionally with vendors, manufacturers, builders, and other project partners as needed
  • Participate in project meetings and site visits when required
  • Track outstanding information and proactively follow up on open items
  • Assist with procurement and project administration as needed
  • Help maintain organized project files and documentation

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Professional experience in interior design, architecture, or a related field
  • Strong AutoCAD skills and experience producing construction documentation
  • Experience with residential interior design projects
  • Understanding of the interior design process and major design phases
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently in a primarily remote environment
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and project management
  • Strong research skills and ability to find, evaluate, and organize information
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly

Preferred

  • Experience with Programa
  • Experience creating specification books and comprehensive schedules
  • Experience with high-end residential interiors
  • Familiarity with small-scale commercial or hospitality projects
  • Experience communicating with vendors and manufacturers
  • Knowledge of furniture procurement and product specifications

YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU ARE…

  • Proactive. You don’t wait to be told every next step.
  • Detail-oriented. You notice when a dimension, finish, specification, or drawing doesn’t make sense.
  • Curious. You enjoy researching products and finding the right solution.
  • Organized. You can keep multiple projects, drawings, schedules, and deadlines moving.
  • A strong communicator. You communicate clearly, professionally, and promptly.
  • Resourceful. When you don’t know something, you know how to find the answer.
  • Collaborative. You can take direction while also bringing your own ideas and expertise to the table.
  • Growth-minded. You’re excited to learn, develop your skills, and take on more responsibility over time.
  • Design-driven. You care about the details and understand that great design is both beautiful and well executed.
