ABOUT CLATSOP COUNTY
Today Clatsop County is one of nine Home Rule counties in Oregon. Five non-partisan elected Commissioners set policy and appoint a full-time County Manager, who is responsible for daily operations. County services are provided through these divisions: County Administration (County Manager), Assessment and Taxation, Budget and Finance, County Clerk, Juvenile, Public Health, Public Works, Community Development, the District Attorney, and Sheriff’s Offices. The county also administers a road district, a rural law enforcement district, and a local sewer district.
THE POSITION
Seeking a full-time Road Maintenance Worker Trainee. The successful candidates will receive training in the maintenance and repair of roads and bridges and is expected to perform full Road Maintenance Worker duties within 12 months of hire including heavy labor in at times hazardous conditions as well as the operation of road construction equipment. Typically requires movement of materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Occasional weekend or after-hour activities in inclement weather. This position is represented by AFSCME Local 2746, Courthouse Roads Unit.

- Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain driving privileges in the State of Oregon, including a good driving record.
- Must possess a Commercial Class A Learner’s Permit at time of application.
- Obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within twelve (12) months of hiring.
- Successful completion of Road Maintenance Worker Training and instruction within one (1) year of hire date.
- Obtain and maintain the following certificates:
- Work Zone Traffic Control (flagging) – within first 10-days of employment. (training provided on-site)
- First Aid/CPR – must obtain within 12-months of hiring
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with driving privileges in the State of Oregon.
- Completion of heavy equipment school.
- Certificate - Work Zone Traffic control (flagging)
- Certificate - Herbicide Applicator License.
- First Aid/ CPR certifications.
- Previous experience in road maintenance work in a Public Works Department.
