We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Art Teacher who believes every child is an artist and who can inspire students to express themselves creatively while developing technical artistic skills and an appreciation for art history and culture with an interdisciplinary approach toward teaching Art.
Position Summary
The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging visual arts instruction that aligns with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts. The successful candidate will create a welcoming and inclusive classroom where students develop artistic techniques, creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence through a variety of artistic media.
The Art Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to integrate the arts across the curriculum and contribute to a vibrant school culture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging standards-based art lessons for students in grades 5–8.
- Teach a variety of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, digital art, and design.
- Foster creativity while teaching foundational artistic concepts such as color theory, composition, perspective, and craftsmanship.
- Introduce students to diverse artists, artistic movements, and cultures from around the world.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring art classroom.
- Effectively manage classroom behavior using positive classroom management strategies.
- Assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback on artistic growth and progress.
- Display student artwork throughout the school and organize exhibitions that celebrate student achievement.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate visual arts into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Assist in planning school-wide celebrations, art showcases, and community events.
- Maintain inventory and proper care of art supplies and equipment.
Qualifications Required
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of Art Certificate or eligibility for certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field.
- Knowledge of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to high academic expectations and student success.
Preferred
- Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students.
- Experience in a charter school or high-performing school environment.
- Familiarity with digital art tools and educational technology.
- Ability to integrate STEAM concepts into visual arts instruction.
- Experience organizing student art exhibitions and school-wide arts events.
