What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stone Fabricator & Polisher - Experience Preferred, Will Train position at Classic Stone Company?
About Us
Classic Stone Company, together with United Tile Company and Farley's Glass, furnishes and installs countertops, tile, flooring, cabinets, showers, and glass for projects ranging from residential kitchens to multi-million dollar commercial builds. Our fabrication shop turns raw slabs into finished countertops that our customers live with every day, and we take pride in the quality of every piece that leaves our shop.
The Role
We're looking for a Stone Fabricator & Polisher to join our shop team. You'll take countertops from cut slab to finished product - fabricating edges, cutouts, and seams, then polishing everything to a high standard. We work with granite, quartz, marble, quartzite, and other natural and engineered stone.
If you have stone fabrication experience, we want to talk to you. If you don't, but you've worked in auto body, woodworking, cabinetmaking, metal fabrication, solid surface, or another hands-on trade where precision and finish quality matter, we'll train you. The skills that make someone good at sanding and finishing a car panel or a piece of furniture carry over directly to stone.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate countertops from cut slabs according to shop drawings and fabrication tickets
- Finishing work on sinks and other cutouts.
- Polish edges and surfaces to a consistent finish using wet polishers, grinders, and polishing pads
- Prepare and fit seams, and perform chip repairs, pit fills, and other stone repairs
- Build mitered edges and laminated build-ups as needed
- Inspect finished pieces for color, sheen, flatness, and edge quality before they leave the shop
- Handle and move slabs safely using carts, A-frames, and lifting equipment
- Follow all safety procedures, including wet-cutting methods, PPE, and respiratory protection requirements related to silica exposure
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and well maintained
- Coordinate with saw operators, CNC operators, templaters, and installers to keep jobs on schedule
What We're Looking For
- Stone countertop fabrication and polishing experience preferred
- No stone experience? Background in auto body, woodworking, cabinetry, solid surface, metal fabrication, or a similar trade will be considered, and we will train
- Comfortable using hand-held power tools such as grinders, polishers, and routers
- Ability to read shop drawings, measurements, and work tickets
- Strong attention to detail and pride in finish quality
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet in a shop environment
- Willingness to wear required PPE, including respirators, and participate in medical surveillance as required by OSHA
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
- Valid driver's license preferred
