Bakery Production Assistant / Baker Helper
Classic Bakery – Gaithersburg, Maryland
Full-Time | Approximately 7:00 AM–3:00 PM | Saturdays Required
Classic Bakery is seeking a dependable, hardworking Bakery Production Assistant / Baker Helper to join our production team at our Gaithersburg location.
This is a hands-on position supporting the daily preparation and production of cakes, pastries, cookies, breads, and other bakery products. The ideal candidate is organized, energetic, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced commercial bakery environment.
Previous bakery, kitchen, or food-production experience is preferred, but we are willing to train a reliable candidate who has a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in baking.
Responsibilities
- Assist bakers, pastry chefs, cake decorators, and other production team members
- Measure, scale, mix, portion, and prepare ingredients according to recipes
- Assist with the production of cakes, pastries, cookies, breads, fillings, frostings, and other bakery items
- Prepare baking pans, trays, molds, and production equipment
- Load and unload ovens, racks, mixers, and other bakery equipment as directed
- Portion, package, label, and organize finished products
- Maintain ingredient levels and notify supervisors when supplies are running low
- Properly rotate and store ingredients and finished products
- Keep workstations, equipment, utensils, floors, and production areas clean and sanitized
- Follow all recipes, quality standards, food-safety procedures, and allergen-handling guidelines
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing bakery ingredients and supplies
- Complete production tasks accurately and within established timelines
- Help with other bakery production duties as needed
Qualifications
- Previous bakery, restaurant kitchen, food-production, or commercial kitchen experience is preferred
- Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and production schedules accurately
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality
- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn different areas of bakery production
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- ServSafe or food-handler certification is a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for the duration of the shift
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, and perform repetitive production tasks
- Ability to safely lift approximately 40–50 pounds when needed
- Comfortable working around ovens, mixers, refrigeration equipment, and varying temperatures
- Ability to safely operate commercial bakery equipment after receiving proper training
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Daily Approximately 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
- Saturday availability is required
- Schedule may occasionally vary depending on production needs, holidays, and seasonal demand
- Additional availability during busy holiday periods is preferred
