What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanical Engineer – Actuation Systems / Powerplant / Analysis / Design position at Class A Surfacing LLC?
Overview
We are seeking a high-impact Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in actuation systems, mechanical design, and engineering analysis to support advanced aerospace programs.
This role requires a well-rounded engineer capable of contributing across mechanisms, actuators, powerplant-related systems, and structural analysis, with the ability to take ownership of hardware from concept through validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop actuation systems (linear and rotary actuators, linkages, mechanisms)
- Perform mechanical and structural analysis (stress, fatigue, thermal, tolerance stack-ups)
- Support powerplant and propulsion-adjacent systems (mounts, interfaces, supporting structures)
- Create and release 3D CAD models and production drawings
- Lead or support system integration and packaging of mechanical assemblies
- Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and failure investigations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, manufacturing, and test
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
- 8–15 years of experience in aerospace or other safety-critical industries
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Actuation systems and mechanisms design
- Mechanical design (CAD, assemblies, packaging)
- Engineering analysis (FEA and/or hand calculations)
- Ability to work independently and drive technical solutions
- Experience delivering hardware in fast-paced development environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EMA (Electro-Mechanical Actuators), hydraulic or electromechanical systems
- Familiarity with flight control systems or propulsion interfaces
- Exposure to FAA certification / regulated environments
- Background in failure analysis, root cause investigation, or test support
- Experience balancing analysis rigor with practical design decisions
What We’re Looking For (Critical for Success)
- A mechanisms/actuation-focused engineer who can own full assemblies
- Strong blend of design analysis system thinking
- Someone who understands how components behave in real systems, not just on paper
- High ownership mindset with potential to become a long-term embedded contributor
