Paving Superintendent

Job Summary: The  Paving Superintendent will be responsible for supervising crews, coordinating schedules, ensuring safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques, equipment, and materials, with a proven track record of leadership in road, highway, or site development projects.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

·         Supervise and manage daily paving operations including labor, equipment, and materials.

·         Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure smooth execution of work.

·         Plan and schedule paving activities to meet project deadlines and milestones.

·         Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with all project specifications, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.

·         Conduct daily site inspections and toolbox talks to enforce safety protocols and identify potential risks.

·         Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and job orders.

·         Track production rates and report progress, challenges, and delays to senior management.

·         Ensure optimal equipment utilization and coordinate with the maintenance team for repairs or servicing.

·         Train and mentor crew members, promoting teamwork and operational efficiency.

·         Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and labor hours.

Qualifications:

·         7 years of experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on asphalt paving.

·         3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.

·         Strong knowledge of paving equipment (pavers, rollers, milling machines, etc.) and asphalt mix designs.

·         Proficient in reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications, and contracts.

·         Solid understanding of DOT standards, local regulations, and safety practices.

·         Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

·         Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced, outdoor construction environment.

·         Proficiency in construction management software is a plus.

·         Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

• Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, stand; Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
