Job Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of our heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for assisting with general ledger accounting, job cost tracking, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have 2–4 years of accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and proper job cost coding for all transactions.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, balance sheets, and bank statements on a monthly basis.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions as needed.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Review and monitor project costs, commitments, and budget-to-actual variances.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and the Operations team to analyze and track financial performance on active jobs.
• Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and lease accounting files.
• Assist with preparation of audit schedules and workpapers for internal and external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP standards.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  
  

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Experience: 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in construction or job-cost–based industries.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software (experience with Viewpoint Vista or similar systems a plus).
• Solid understanding of GAAP principles and job cost accounting.
