POSITION TITLE: 1.0 FTE Special Education Developmental Learning Program Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and the Director of Special Education
Terms of Employment: 184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.
August 31, 2026 start date. FY26 salary scale may change based on completed negotiations.

Job Goal: The Developmental Learning Program (DLP) teacher coordinates and provides children with intellectual impairments and related disabilities instruction in academic, communication, motor, self-help, leisure, vocational, and life skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The DLP Teacher provides:
Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities including work with students with intellectual impairments and related disabilities.
Teach academic, communication, social, behavioral, and functional life skills.
Respond appropriately to behavioral, emotional, or crises while maintaining student dignity and safety.
Foster self-advocacy, self-regulation, and social-emotional development.
Create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and success.
Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, and other service providers.
Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and successes.
Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusion opportunities and accommodations.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and professional development activities
Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate student performance and progress toward IEP goals.
Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate data to inform instructional decisions.
Prepare progress reports and communicate student achievements and challenges to families and educational teams.
Participate in eligibility evaluations, reevaluations, and educational planning meetings.
Performs other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
Requirements:
- Masters Degree in Special Education preferred
- DESE certification in severe special needs required DESE certification in moderate special needs and previous experience will also be considered if severe license is pursued within the first year of employment
- Good organizational and communication skills, experience in delivering small group instruction
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children diagnosed with intellectual impairments as well as leadership experience/skills and experience working in an intensive instructional classroom serving students
