Academic Support Specialist - MTSS (Part Time)

Overall Purpose

The job of Academic Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of supporting teachers in implementing lessons designed as interventions for targeted students struggling with the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards in reading, writing, and mathematics; working with students, teachers, and parents to ensure that classroom and school climates enhance academic learning and success; providing academic support and remediation for students at risk of failure; and collaborates and supporting teachers and parents to ensure student success and the completion of school.

Essential Functions

• Models best teaching practices for teachers in their classrooms and in professional learning settings.
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of core subject material skills.
• Identifies students who are academically at-risk and develops strategies to address their needs.
• Communicates regularly and effectively with administrators, Instructional Coach and Teachers regarding core subjects.
• Plans professional learning sessions for teachers/staff at all grade levels.
• Assists teachers in integrating and differentiating research-based, culturally-aware content and instruction for students.
• Provides coaching support to ensure the implementation of performance standards via the CCSD curriculum.
• Works with school administrators, support personnel, teachers, colleagues and parents to ensure that students meet their core academic goals.
• Work with the Family Engagement Specialists and the Instructional Coach to develop materials that can be used as academic interventions at home.
• Collaborates with the community to develop outreach activities that foster family engagement and school-home communication.
• Attend and participate in RTI, EIP or SST meetings as necessary, providing information regarding student’s core academic needs. Marginal Functions

Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Requirements

T-5 content certification preferred

Leadership or instructional supervision endorsement preferred

Three (3) years’ classroom experience preferred

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 40% walking, and 35% standing.
