About the vacancy

The Northwestern Local School District is seeking applicants for the position of Superintendent of the district in anticipation of the retirement of Jeff Patrick. The Board anticipates the new administrator taking office on August 1, 2026, with the search assistance of the Clark County Educational Service Center.

About the district

The Northwestern Local School District covers 68 square miles in western Clark County and a small portion of southern Champaign County. The district is located on Ohio State Route 41, just west of the city of Springfield and northeast of the city of New Carlisle. 1,612 students attend the district each day. The district operates a PreK-6 building, Northwestern Elementary School, and a 7-12 building, Northwestern Junior/Senior High School, as well as a preschool program and comprehensive athletic and extracurricular programs.

Compensation

Salary and benefits package is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience. 260- day contract.

About the Community

The Northwestern district is located in Pike and German townships and the communities of Lawrenceville, North Hampton and Tremont City. The district enjoys a supportive community and the partnership of parent- teacher and booster organizations.

In 2009, the community generously approved a combined bond issue and 1-percent continuing earned income tax. The District recently built a $3.4 million Athletic Complex.

Leadership Profile

The Northwestern Board of Education is looking for a Superintendent who has a high standard of personal ethics and a record of being loyal, hard-working, enthusiastic, and honest. The ideal candidate will hold or qualify for an Ohio superintendent certificate and possess a strong administrative background in public schools. The board has identified the following qualifications of importance for this position:

Leadership and management skills
Ability to generate trust, confidence, and mutual respect
in working with the Board, Staff and Community.
A comprehensive understanding of Ohio school law, finance and regulations and financial reporting.
Thorough knowledge of and successful experience in sound fiscal management practices One who is willing to be the face of the district and be visible to the community and staff Experience as a school administrator with superintendent, or assistant superintendent experience preferred
The ability to work as an articulate, straightforward communicator with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work tactfully, creatively and visibly with school board members, administrators, staff, students, parents, the community and state elected officials Someone willing to become a district resident
