The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Airport Landside Operations Specialist position. This position helps ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming experience for airport visitors by providing traffic control, customer assistance, transportation, and parking operations services. The position patrols assigned areas on bicycle, foot, and/or in a vehicle and provides visitors with information, directions, and assistance. The position also collects parking fees using a parking revenue control system, enforces traffic and parking regulations, and monitors assigned areas for unusual or suspicious activity.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility List to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Employee Services.

Employee Services reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and  three (3) years full-time customer service experience and providing information to the public. Customer service in a high volume public facility is desirable.

All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application. All details must be written in your own words and cannot be copied from job descriptions or other external sources.

Working Conditions: Work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Work outdoors/outside in all weather conditions. Work with exposure to heavy traffic and potentially hazardous emissions and fumes.

Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License with appropriate endorsements at time of hire.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. A drug and alcohol screening is part of this examination.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted and maintain a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.

Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

Strength and mobility to work in an airport exterior location, to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to drive a variety of vehicles; use standard office equipment, hand-held computers, and a parking revenue control system; vision to read printed materials, license plates, and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, intercom system, two-way radio, and electronically/virtually. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

  • Responds to security calls, emergency situations and/or automobile accidents on airport property; assesses situation; summons help and controls scene until arrival of proper authority.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • May perform routine maintenance and landscape duties.
  • May provide work instruction to less experienced staff.
  • May drive an airport shuttle bus, assist with VIP arrivals or departures, and perform a variety of similar services.
  • May use standard office equipment, drive various vehicles and a use a two- way radio in the course of the work.

Transportation Operations:

  • Directs, monitors, and maintains vehicular traffic control at the airport; explains to visitors the reasons and results of impeded flow and issues notices of civil infraction under Nevada State statutes as required.
  • Assists airport users, directs them to the proper location and ensures their safety; provides special assistance to disabled patrons; assists with crowd control in specified situations.
  • Drives a tow truck and removes such vehicles after citing.
  • Provides a variety of information to and answers questions of passengers and other visitors regarding such items as airline location, surface transportation, available parking facilities, etc.
  • Patrols parking facilities, roadway systems and other areas on foot or in a vehicle for security, accident prevention and parking surveillance; attempts to resolve difficult visitor situations and calls for appropriate assistance in criminal situations.
  • Assists public transportation vehicles such as busses, taxis, and other vehicles in maintaining the traffic flow on airport premises; assigns bus stalls.
  • Maintains logs and records related to the work; reports unusual incidents as specified. 

Parking Services:

  • Receives parking tickets from patrons, calculates the appropriate fee using a parking revenue control system and calculates fees; makes reports of discrepancies.
  • Following established procedures, handles unusual transactions such as insufficient funds, mutilated, blank, unreadable, or lost tickets, complimentary or non-revenue transactions, stolen or void tickets and similar situations.
  • Records the license number of vehicles leaving the facility using a hand-held computer; surveys and records licenses of vehicles remaining in the facility on a specified shift.
  • Resolves conflicts and/or handles unusual situations.
  • Patrols parking facilities on foot, multi-geared bicycle and/or in a vehicle to provide enhanced security, prevent vehicle break-ins or vandalism and to assist patrons; provides jump-starts to non- operable vehicles as required.  
  • Notices of infraction to illegally parked vehicles; removes abandoned vehicles from airport property.
  • Prepares standard reports of vehicle license updates and exceptions using automated equipment.
  • Direct traffic in and out of parking areas to relieve congestion; may handle overflow parking to resolve airport capacity problems.
