What You’ll Do
Under the supervision of the Environmental Health Supervisor, you will:
- Support a variety of environmental health programs, including food safety, water systems, waste management, vector control, rabies prevention, swimming pools/spas, and more.
- Conduct environmental sampling, testing, and inspections in both field and office settings.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of field observations.
- Process applications, licenses, permits, and payments; maintain related databases and files.
- Provide friendly and professional customer service to the public, businesses, and partner agencies.
- Assist Environmental Health Specialists in carrying out program goals and community health initiatives.
- Participate in agency preparedness and response activities for public health emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Proof of automobile insurance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We’re looking for individuals who are:
- Detail-oriented and organized, with strong recordkeeping and reporting skills.
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team in both office and field environments.
- Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Reader, and database applications.
- Skilled communicators who can provide courteous and effective service to the public.
- Interested in learning about environmental health and applying technical knowledge to real-world community settings.
Experience in environmental science, public health, or related fields is a plus, but not required — training is provided!
Physical & Working Conditions
This position involves both office and fieldwork. Candidates should be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, and perform light physical tasks (lifting up to 25 lbs).
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, or reach.
- Travel locally by automobile to community locations and meetings.
