Position Summary

Clark Bros, Inc. is seeking a Traveling Project Engineer to support heavy civil and renewable energy construction projects throughout the United States. This is a field-based position requiring full-time travel and extended stays at project sites.

The Traveling Project Engineer works alongside the Project Manager and Superintendent to coordinate all phases of construction, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field every day, solving problems, working directly with crews and clients, and experiencing new project locations as assignments change.

This position requires flexibility to relocate between project assignments as projects are completed. Paid travel and company-provided housing are included.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Know, understand, and actively demonstrate Clark Bros., Inc.'s mission, values, and commitment to safety
  • Serve as the primary field engineering support by working on-site daily alongside the Project Manager, Superintendent, and field crews
  • Travel to project assignments throughout the United States and relocate as project needs dictate
  • Develop a thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and project objectives
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in the planning, execution, and successful completion of assigned construction projects
  • Prepare and maintain all project documentation including project setup, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, material tracking logs, meeting minutes, and other required documentation
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and administration of prime contract and subcontract change orders
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved
  • Communicate with clients to understand their objectives while anticipating project needs and maintaining strong working relationships
  • Assist with project purchasing, procurement, and coordination of materials, equipment, and subcontractors while maintaining approved project budgets
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent to ensure company-owned equipment and resources are utilized efficiently
  • Monitor project schedules, identify potential delays, and assist in developing recovery plans when necessary
  • Review plans and specifications regularly to ensure field work complies with contract documents and quality standards
  • Monitor project costs, labor productivity, equipment usage, and material quantities to support accurate cost forecasting and reporting
  • Assist with monthly cost reporting, production tracking, and project forecasting
  • Support project management in directing project staff, field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project schedules and quality expectations
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier performance for quality, production, and contract compliance
  • Assist with preparing owner pay applications, project billings, and collection of payments as directed
  • Keep Project Management informed of project progress, upcoming work activities, manpower requirements, equipment needs, and potential risks
  • Review and approve daily reports, labor hours, production quantities, and timecards as required
  • Collect, review, and submit certified payroll documentation when required
  • Assist in maintaining project records including daily reports, quantity tracking, photographs, correspondence, and project files
  • Participate in project meetings with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams
  • Assist in project closeout activities including punch list completion, as-built documentation, warranties, and final turnover
  • Promote a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with Clark Bros., Inc. safety policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, SWPPP requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Comply with all company Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) standards and safe work practices
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support successful project delivery

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time and relocate to project sites throughout the United States for extended project assignments
  • Must be comfortable working primarily in an active construction field environment rather than a traditional office setting
  • Minimum of 3 years of construction experience preferred, with experience in heavy civil construction, renewable energy, utility, transmission, or infrastructure projects strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • OSHA 30 certification, or the ability to obtain within an established timeframe
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and construction management software
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SureTrak, or similar scheduling software preferred
  • Working knowledge of SWPPP requirements and environmental compliance preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical power grid infrastructure is preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
  • Knowledge of AIA prime contracts and general contract conditions is preferred
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in changing project environments

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position safely and effectively, including:

  • Walking active construction sites daily over uneven terrain
  • Standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching for extended periods
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Operating standard office equipment, computers, tablets, and other field technology
  • Seeing to inspect project work, plans, and documentation
  • Hearing and speaking clearly to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors
