ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to Primary Care Providers, Physician Assistants, and APRNs to ensure high-quality, efficient patient care. This role involves direct patient interaction, clinical documentation, and assistance with exams and procedures while supporting smooth operations within the medical center.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform pre-visit planning and medication reconciliation for patient visits.
  • Take and document patient vitals, health history, and chief complaints.
  • Assist providers with physical exams, procedures, and Health Risk Assessments (HRAs).
  • Respond to patient phone calls and relay messages accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR) in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Prepare exam rooms and ensure cleanliness, safety, and readiness for patient care.
  • Coordinate patient referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care as directed.
  • Support clinical workflows by managing supplies and restocking exam rooms.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and team members.
  • Assist in patient education, including discharge instructions and preventive care guidance.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or completion of clinical rotation training.
  • Active, unrestricted Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • CPR/BCLS certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust your focus.  Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
