Phlebotomist - Great Bend Clinic

The Clinic Phlebotomist demonstrates knowledge and skill in using the

proper technique in collecting blood samples by capillary or

venipuncture. Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of

collection and maintains specimen integrity.

Essential Job Functions

• Represent Clara Barton Medical Clinic in a professional manner in
  
  

all written/verbal/electronic communication and interactions with

the public

• Ability to provide excellent customer service, possess strong
  
  

written and oral communication skills.

• Collects and prepares various body fluids for necessary tests as
  
  

directed by physician/provider and governed by established policies

and procedures.

• Obtains blood specimens and collects non-blood specimens such as
  
  

urine, sputum, stool, nasopharanygeal, and throat swabs for

laboratory testing

• Checks the test requisition to ensure correctness and completeness
  
  

prior to collecting samples

• Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection
  
  

and maintains specimen integrity

• Performs necessary quality control checks on all clinic lab
  
  

equipment and clinic point of care testing kits.

• Must be able to route and file laboratory reports according to
  
  

established procedures.

• Communicates abnormal/critical values to provider nurse or provider
  
  

and documents appropriately.

• Monitor an environment of continuous quality improvement and safety.
• Self-motivated and Self Sufficient
• Contributes to general laboratory functions and institutional needs.
• Monitors and works overdue laboratory and radiology exam orders and
  
  

contacts patients encouraging completion of overdue labs.

• Assists clinic nurses with maintaining accuracy of patient charts by
  
  

requesting documentation from outgoing referrals.

• Maintains compliance with laboratory, hospital and clinic policies
  
  

and procedures, as well as safety practices.

• Keeps a neat and clean work area.
• Restocks and orders laboratory supplies weekly, while also ensuring
  
  

supplies and equipment remain in date.

• Ability to represent Clara Barton Hospital and Rural Health Clinics
  
  

in a positive and professional manner.

• Perform all other tasks that may be assigned.
