We are seeking a motivated and detail-driven Assistant Superintendent to join our Richmond, VA team. In this role, you’ll support the on-site leadership of large-scale commercial construction projects, helping ensure that every phase of the work is completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
This position offers an opportunity to grow into a leadership role, developing the skills and experience that define a successful Superintendent.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the lead Superintendent in managing all on-site construction activities.
Support and lead field teams, fostering open communication and collaboration across all trades.
Enforce jobsite safety protocols in partnership with the Corporate EHS Director and local safety coordinators.
Coordinate and monitor subcontractor work for quality, schedule, and safety compliance.
Participate in preconstruction planning, including schedule development and logistics coordination.
Maintain jobsite documentation such as daily reports, QC/QA logs, and inspection records.
Schedule and direct inspections with local jurisdictions to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
Monitor and maintain site organization, cleanliness, and security.
Manage the punch list process and track completion of outstanding items to ensure timely closeout.
Qualifications / Skills and Knowledge Requirements
3–8 years of experience in commercial construction as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, or Assistant Superintendent.
OSHA 30 and CPR certifications required.
Associate’s (2-year) or Bachelor’s (4-year) degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, scheduling, and jobsite operations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with professionalism and diplomacy in all interactions.
Proven ability to lead and motivate field teams in a positive, productive jobsite culture.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and construction management software.
A proactive mindset, anticipating challenges and solving problems before they arise.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
A deep respect for quality craftsmanship, timelines, and budgets.
