JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Surgery Coordinator coordinates and schedules surgeries and follow-up appointments for multiple providers, performs pre-operative and post-operative data entry, and provides patients with necessary information. This position arranges for referrals to other providers when required, and provides information and education to patients, providers, and insurance companies as needed. The Surgery Coordinator works with Central Access to obtain prior authorization from insurance companies for procedures, diagnostic studies, etc. The surgery coordinator will also provide support and training to office personnel.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Medical Assistant certification, LPN, or higher level program preferred; if not, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) training required with certification completed within 12 months of hire required
EXPERIENCE
- Three years’ experience in a medical clinic or hospital
- Working knowledge of medical/surgical terminology, third-party payor requirements, electronic scheduling systems, and electronic medical record systems preferred
- Training as Medical Assistant preferred
LICENSURE/CREDENTIALS
MA-C, LPN, RN, or CPOE required (incumbent will have 12 months to obtain CPOE if necessary)
