Description

To manage and lead daily center operations; supervise lead Teachers for assigned classrooms; promote high quality 0-5 center-based service delivery; collaborate with Managers to integrate their components into classroom and center services; collaborate with Managers and Directors to ensure agency compliance with Licensing Requirements and Federal and State Performance Standards.

Essential Functions

Leadership and Supervision:

  • Establish and maintain a welcoming and inclusive work environment for all center staff, to include daily use of reflective practices.
  • Effectively manage and lead center daily operations and support daily guidance non-classroom center staff.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all center staff, to include effective conflict resolution.
  • Actively promote and facilitate positive working relationships between staff members at the center level.
  • Effectively supervise lead Teachers for assigned classrooms, utilizing reflective practices and weekly supervision sessions.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, ensure that center staff complete maintain required credentials (CBR, CDA®, First Aid/CPR, Food Handler’s Card, etc.)
  • Provide ongoing feedback to classroom staff that recognizes strengths and recommends areas of improvement.
  • Proactively collaborate with Component Managers to promote training and ongoing support that reflects the individual needs of staff members and/or the team as a whole.
  • Complete all priority tasks accurately and on time, as outlined in the Monthly Task List.
  • Ensure that Teacher weekly lesson plan contain required school readiness activities, required Federal Performance Standard and Licensing components, and are completed and implemented within expected timeframes.
  • Perform scheduled monitoring tasks related to the Education component (child supervision/safety, child health, child attendance, education services record keeping, classroom monitoring checklists, active supervision/zoning activities, playground checklists, ongoing child assessment, etc.).
  • Support monitoring activities for other Components as requested (health/safety, meal counts, etc.).
  • Monitor attendance follow-up activities by Teachers for children demonstrating absenteeism.
  • Monitor developmental screening completion and related data entry by expected timelines (ASQ-3, ASQ-SE).
  • Monitor Teacher education home visit and parent conference completion and related data entry by expected timelines.
  • Monitor the participation of Teachers in case management meetings, consultation meetings (CESD and Mental Health), and staff meetings. Participate in case management and/or consultation meetings as requested.
  • Monitor completion of data entered into TS GOLD® and ChildPlus by Teachers by expected timelines.
  • Maintain TPOT/TPITOS® reliability and administer TPOT/TPITOS® observations (as training is available).
  • Coach classroom staff in the implementation of the Creative Curriculum® and PBIS.
  • Assist center staff with child abuse and neglect reports, including tracking, data entry, and routing of reports.
  • Coordinate professional development and training plans of assigned staff and track progress towards educational Federal Performance Standards requirements.
  • Complete classroom observations using appropriate tools and assist staff in meeting the individual needs of the children.
  • Achieve and maintain CLASS® reliability and administer CLASS® observations as assigned (as training is available).

Family Engagement

  • Jointly oversee the planning and facilitation of monthly Family Gatherings, parent committee meetings, and special events as requested, in collaboration with Family Advocates.
  • Ensure representation of assigned center(s) on Policy Council.
  • In collaboration with center staff, facilitate the resolution of parent concerns.

Center Director for Licensing

  • Ensure compliance with staff–child ratios; ensure adequate daily classroom coverage with appropriate staff.
  • Ensure the health & safety of all enrolled children in assigned sites and classrooms.
  • Be present at the center on a daily basis during the hours of classroom operation; secure a substitute director for any hours of operation in the event of center director absence.
  • Promote safety among center staff; maintain a safe working environment; and assure timely completion of all incident reporting.
  • Maintain records in compliance with the Oregon Child Care Licensing requirements; maintain documents required by the Agency and Oregon Child Care Division; ensure applicable documents completed daily and stored on site, as needed (personnel file box, classroom staff sign-in sheets, child attendance records, child incident reports, etc.)
  • Represent the Agency to the broader public; conduct tours for parents and other guests.
  • Coordinate the use of assigned center facilities for meetings, trainings, and events; provide assistance for event set up.
  • Facilitate and monitor enrollment process of new children in collaboration with Family Advocates and Family Connections team.
  • Meet and communicate regularly with Component Managers to discuss staff development and component directives.
  • Collaborate with center staff in routing interoffice mail and content disbursement.
  • Conduct monthly Center Meetings for center staff.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with classroom staff regarding Agency policies and procedures, as well as Agency changes and updates that impact centers.

Community Involvement

  • Build and strengthen collaborations and rapport with local agencies and partners, attend appropriate meetings.
  • Participate and assist with community events.
  • Conduct community outreach, soliciting volunteers and support for the center.

  • Arrive to work on time; punctually attend and actively participate in all required activities, meetings, and trainings.

  • Be familiar with, and adhere to, position-related policies and procedures as well as the program’s overarching objectives.
  • Follow Agency policy/procedures for reporting and documenting suspected child abuse and/or neglect.

Confidentiality

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of information regarding enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other program operations as appropriate.

Training

  • In consultation with supervisor, develop professional work goals and training plan. Participate in training as requested.

Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education (ECE)

or

A bachelor’s degree in a related field with 15 quarter (12 semester) college credits in ECE

  • Three years’ experience as a Teacher an early childhood environment.
  • At least one year of training and/or experience in management and supervision of adults.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices of early childhood education/development.
  • Step 10 or higher with the Oregon Registry Online (must be attained within 2 months of hire)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by Oregon Administrative Rules

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents and students from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and coach staff from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide training, direction, and support to fit individual needs.
  • Ability to set and communicate specific goals and monitor progress toward achieving them.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Office Suite and knowledge of, or ability to learn, specialized education software.
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle available for use on the job (or have alternative transportation).
  • Ability to possess and maintain compliance with State of Oregon Criminal Background Registry.
  • Ability to possess and maintain current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Oregon Food Handler’s Card

Working Conditions

  • Work with adults and physically active three to five-year old children, as well as infants and toddlers.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on floors
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent computer use.
  • Regular walking and standing.
