What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Landscaping position at Clackamas County Children's Commission?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance (~70%)
- Maintain lawns, garden beds, trees, and shrubs, including mowing, trimming, edging, and pruning.
- Manage weeds and bark/mulch areas.
- Perform seasonal cleanups such as leaf removal, debris clearing, and storm-related cleanup.
- Maintain walkways, playgrounds, and outdoor common areas.
- Identify and report irrigation, drainage, or safety issues.
- Support snow/ice removal as needed.
- Safely operate Agency vehicles including towing small trailers.
- Safely operate zero turn mower and other landscaping power tools.
- Assist the coordination of small water systems, where applicable
- Collaborate with employees, vendors, contractors, and community partners on projects related to facilities and maintenance
- Demonstrate current health and safety practices during all projects and work-related tasks
Facility Maintenance & Repairs (~30%)
- Perform basic carpentry, drywall patching, painting, and minor repairs
- Repair or replace hardware, fixtures, shelving, and fencing.
- Assist with simple plumbing and electrical tasks within skill and code limits.
- Assemble and install equipment or furnishings.
- Respond to routine maintenance requests and assist with preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain organized, safe workspaces and equipment.
- Move office and classroom furniture and equipment as needed.
- Participate in operations and all Agency meetings as required.
- Support Agency events with event set-up and tear down.

Training:
In consultation with supervisor, develop professional work goals and training plan. Participate in training as requested.
Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping or outdoor maintenance required.
- Strong knowledge and skills in repair and maintenance of equipment, minor plumbing, minor electrical, furniture, fixtures, appliances, facilities systems, ground and structure, and use of tools common to the trade
- Ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with co-workers, vendors, clients, and the general public
- Ability to operate a computer for data entry, information retrieval, and timekeeping
- Ability to positively and respectfully interact with families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to safely operate Agency vehicles.
- Ability to produce a satisfactory driving record for the previous three years that is acceptable to the Agency’s insurance company.
- Ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle available for use on the job (or have alternative transportation).
- Ability to possess and maintain compliance with State of Oregon Criminal Background Registry.
- Ability to possess and maintain current Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical which will test for:
o Ability to, without assistance, consistently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds; frequently move items up to 75 pounds
o Ability to, with assistance, occasionally move items 75 – 100 pounds; seldom move items over 100 pounds
o Ability to crouch, bend, kneel, sit, stand, twist, and reach
- This position entails:
- Movement throughout multiple work locations in different buildings. Will need to travel to a city or town other than assigned work location.
- Stand or sit at a workstation frequently during each shift.
- Regular crouching, bending, kneeling, standing, twisting, reaching, climbing, working from ladders at various heights, and operating a variety of hand and power tools. Occasionally work in confined spaces or under other adverse conditions and complete work under pressure to meet critical time frames.
- Push or pull a cart or hand truck.
Education and Experience:
- U.S. High School diploma/GED or Equivalent
- Competent in the use of basic construction and maintenance tools
- One-year facility maintenance experience preferred
