This role is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service of commercial security systems, including access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion alarm systems.

This is not an entry-level installation position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience programming and commissioning security systems in addition to performing physical installations.

The Security Systems Technician will work independently and as part of larger project teams while coordinating with Project Managers, engineers, electricians, locksmiths, IT personnel, and other trades.

This position is primarily field-based, with work throughout Long Island, New York City, surrounding areas, and occasional out-of-state travel.

Key Responsibilities

Security System Installation & Programming
  • Install, program, configure, test, commission, and service access control systems
  • Install and configure IP cameras and video management systems
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot intrusion and burglar alarm systems
  • Install and configure intercoms and related security devices
  • Install cameras, card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, motion detectors, control panels, power supplies, and associated hardware
  • Program access levels, schedules, users, credentials, alarm zones, recording rules, notifications, and system integrations
  • Perform camera aiming, focus adjustment, image-quality verification, and recording tests
Cabling & Network Configuration
  • Install, terminate, label, and test Category cable and low-voltage security wiring
  • Configure IP addresses and connect security devices to customer networks
  • Work with TCP/IP, static IP addressing, DHCP, PoE, switches, routers, and related networking components
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network communication and connectivity issues related to security systems
Troubleshooting, Service & Commissioning
  • Troubleshoot wiring, communication, network, hardware, software, and programming issues
  • Diagnose system failures and complete repairs with limited supervision
  • Complete punch-list, commissioning, warranty, and service work
  • Verify complete system functionality before project turnover
  • Train customers on system operation and basic system administration
Project Coordination & Documentation
  • Read and interpret drawings, floor plans, risers, wiring diagrams, scopes of work, and equipment schedules
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, programmers, electricians, locksmiths, IT personnel, and other trades
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, programming records, test results, photographs, and as-built documentation
  • Identify and communicate potential project issues before they impact schedule, performance, or system functionality
  • Follow company installation standards, safety requirements, and customer site procedures
  • Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, materials, and company vehicles
Systems & Technical Experience
Candidates should have hands-on experience working with:

  • Access control systems

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with all three of the following:
  • Access control systems

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
