The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and Vice President Finance and play a key role in overseeing the financial operations of our nonprofit organization. The Assistant Controller has responsibility for the month and year-end closes, accounts payable, cash management, payroll processing, annual audits, and financial policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Reports to the Vice President of Finance and works cross functionally within CJP. This position has three direct reports.

The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and Vice President Finance and play a key role in overseeing the financial operations of our nonprofit organization. The Assistant Controller has responsibility for the month and year-end closes, accounts payable, cash management, payroll processing, annual audits, and financial policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance Operations team including accounts payable, grants payable and payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Independently act as the primary back for the Controller and Vice President of Finance.
- Serve at the primary department as backup for staff in the revenue accounting and philanthropic asset services teams. Provide leave support and additional assistance as needed.
- Lead the month-end close process, including oversight of journal entry postings and account reconciliations.
- Support the Financial Planning and Analysis team on the preparation of standardized and customized reports.
- Oversee and manage operating cash and cash forecasts to ensure the prudent deployment and safeguarding of organization resources. Provide a monthly cash forecast to the Controller and Vice President, Finance
- Coordinate with the grants management team providing guidance and direction related to grantee vetting and verification.
- Prepare monthly financial summaries including cash collections, cash status reporting, assets under management, and reserve funds.
- Plan, facilitate and manage the annual financial statement audits of non-profit and affiliated organizations. Work with Human Resources on the 403b and Workers Compensation audits.
- Prepare yearly consolidated financial statements, footnotes, and expanded statements for the non-profit and affiliated organizations.
- Work with the Controller and Vice President, Finance to establish and maintain internal controls, policies and procedures to safeguard the non-profit's assets.
- Communicate effectively with staff throughout the organization, leading the department to promote a positive, supportive and customer orientated environment.
- Participate in other departmental projects and activities as needed.

Requirements
- 7 years of experience in a mid-level or higher-level finance or accounting position, preferably in a nonprofit. Staff management experience is preferred.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Ramp and Salesforce preferred.
