Industrial Electrical Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

Join our growing team responsible for maintaining and improving heavy steel processing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and improving electrical and automated systems that support critical production operations. The successful candidate is a self-driven industrial electrician who enjoys solving complex problems, minimizing downtime, working alongside other techs, and operators, and improving equipment reliability.

What We're Looking For

A technician who takes ownership of equipment reliability, works safely, collaborates across departments, and is motivated to continuously improve aging production equipment rather than simply repairing failures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V three-phase power distribution, motor controls, MCCs, transformers, relays, contactors, overloads, and control circuits.
  • Diagnose and maintain VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, sensors, safety relays, scanners, light curtains, and interlock systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and OEM info.
  • Ability to replace parts and find replacements as needed in our inventory databases.
  • Perform preventive, and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Support mechanical technicians during repairs including motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics…
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, automation improvements, and capital projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and communicate effectively across.
  • Ability to use a computer to write daily reports, respond to e-mails, and search for parts
  • Ability to properly size circuit conductors, circuit protector devices, ability to run conduit if needed, install electrical equipment, wire and unwire equipment as needed
  • Responsible for proper care/cleanliness of tools, parts, materials and work area.
  • Responsible for providing coverage in the absence of other Maintenance Technicians.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in steel processing, stamping, or heavy manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability with PLC-controlled equipment (mostly Allen-Bradley).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and Lockout/Tagout.
  • Industrial electrical training, apprenticeship, technical school, or equivalent experience.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email and job related internet research.

  • Use of hay bay cranes, and other bigger machinery

  • Job performance demands occasional application of the following physical requirements: lifting (Max. 80 lbs.), carrying, sitting, reaching, overhead reaching/lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, balancing, foot controls, driving, total visual field.
  • Be able and willing to work in non-ideal environments such as: tight spaces, working at heights, dusty/dirty areas, around heavy machinery, and wear hard-hats and ear-plugs.
