C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking an experienced Fusion Professional to join our natural gas installation crew. This position requires a highly skilled individual with proven experience in butt fusion of polyethylene (poly) pipe, as well as the ability to perform critical tie-ins, mainline fusion, and service work. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient pipeline installations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Perform butt fusion on polyethylene (poly) pipe in accordance with company and industry standards
- Demonstrate proficiency in mainline fusion, tie-ins, service line installations, and tapping procedures
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of underground natural gas pipelines
- Perform physical labor including digging, lifting, carrying, and handling materials, tools, and equipment
- Operate fusion equipment and hand tools safely and effectively
- Follow directions from supervisors and communicate clearly with crew members
- Maintain strong awareness of safety procedures, especially when working in the red zone around heavy equipment
- Assist with site preparation, pipe handling, and overall crew productivity
- Adapt to different job sites, schedules, and travel requirements
- Meet productivity, quality, and safety expectations daily
- Experience with fusion of poly pipe required
- Proven experience as a tie-in man with strong mainline fusion capabilities
- Experience performing service work and tapping preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- OSHA certification preferred
- Strong technical knowledge of fusion equipment, tools, and underground utility construction practices
- Ability to read and follow instructions, job specifications, and safety procedures
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a crew
- Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic
- Ability to solve problems and adapt in fast-paced job site environments
- Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation
- Must have 2 forms of ID for I-9
- Ability to pass drug test and background check
- Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed
- Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor
- Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods
- Capability to work in demanding outdoor construction environments
- Outdoor construction job sites in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, traffic, and uneven terrain
- Fast-paced environment requiring constant awareness of surroundings and safety hazards
- Full-time position with typical work weeks ranging from 40 to 60 hours
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on project needs
- Travel required depending on job location
