Pay: $24.25 – $34.35 per hour

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position involves operating a variety of heavy equipment—such as excavators and skid steers—in a safe and efficient manner on underground utility projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working around existing utilities and be capable of performing physical labor in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy equipment including various-sized excavators, skid steers, and other construction machinery
• Excavate safely near buried and existing utilities
• Perform tasks related to pipeline construction and maintenance
• Follow all safety procedures and work in compliance with company and DOT regulations
• Travel as needed for projects, including overnight stays and overtime
• Assist crew with physical labor when not operating equipment
  
  

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment (preferred)
• Proven ability to safely excavate around underground utilities
• Working knowledge of pipeline construction and trenching/backfilling techniques
• Ability to read utility locator markings
• Must pass and maintain all required Operator Qualifications and testing
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong commitment to safety and quality work
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR
• Reliable transportation
• Must pass pre-employment screenings including drug test and MVR check
• Must provide two forms of ID for I-9 verification
  
  

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
• Must pass and maintain required certifications, qualifications, and tests before and after hire
