C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking a Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CP and AC mitigation systems. This position requires hands-on field experience, strong technical knowledge, and a willingness to learn and obtain industry certifications. The CP Technician plays a key role in ensuring the integrity and longevity of underground infrastructure.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Install cathodic protection (CP) systems, AC mitigation systems, and apply coatings
- Perform exothermic welding and pin brazing
- Collect GPS coordinates using Trimble equipment
- Take and document CP potentials
- Install and maintain rectifier interruption systems
- Conduct annual potential surveys and perform CP troubleshooting
- Operate pipeline locators and perform advanced CP assessments
- Perform Close Interval Surveys (CIS), DCVG, and ACVG surveys
- Utilize pipeline current mapper and stray current mapper equipment
- Measure soil resistivity and perform current requirement testing
- Conduct CP interference testing and analyze data
- Perform casing short testing and isolation testing
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of field data
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
- High school diploma required; military training or college experience preferred
- AMPP CP Level 1 certification required
- AMPP CP Level 2 certification preferred
- Experience with pipeline corrosion control and AC mitigation techniques preferred
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong understanding of cathodic protection systems, coatings, and corrosion control
- Ability to operate specialized testing equipment and interpret data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software systems
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Clear communication skills and strong work ethic
- Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation
- Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements
- Ability to pass drug test and background check
- Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed
- Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor
- Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and working in outdoor environments
- Ability to perform field work for extended periods
- Capability to work in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Outdoor job sites with exposure to varying weather conditions
