Heavy Equipment Operator

Pay: $24.25 – $34.35 per hour
Job Type: Full-time

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position involves operating a variety of heavy equipment—such as excavators and skid steers—in a safe and efficient manner on underground utility projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working around existing utilities and be capable of performing physical labor in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment including various-sized excavators, skid steers, and other construction machinery
- Excavate safely near buried and existing utilities
- Perform tasks related to pipeline construction and maintenance
- Follow all safety procedures and work in compliance with company and DOT regulations
- Travel as needed for projects, including overnight stays and overtime
- Assist crew with physical labor when not operating equipment
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment (preferred)
- Proven ability to safely excavate around underground utilities
- Working knowledge of pipeline construction and trenching/backfilling techniques
- Ability to read utility locator markings
- Must pass and maintain all required Operator Qualifications and testing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to safety and quality work
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR
- Reliable transportation
- Must pass pre-employment screenings including drug test and MVR check
- Must provide two forms of ID for I-9 verification
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
- Must pass and maintain required certifications, qualifications, and tests before and after hire
