Civitas, a Sacramento based legal and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced, highly organized, detail-oriented and proactive Legal Analyst / Paralegal to join our growing team. We specialize in igniting local economies, creating jobs and establishing stable funding for destination promotions and downtown improvements throughout the United States.
About You
In this position, you will support our team by becoming an expert in improvement district laws. You’ll support our project managers in their endeavors, work closely with clients, and produce documents quickly and accurately.
To be successful in the position, you will need:
- Courage to write new state laws;
- An uncanny ability to read and translate laws into understandable processes and standards;
- Draft, review, and manage contracts, legal documents, and policies with precision;
- Ensure all documentation aligns with legal requirements and organizational objectives.
- Proven ability to analyze laws, make judgment calls, and build persuasive cases;
- A penchant for being busy and the ability to quickly switch gears and shift priorities;
- The ability to professionally communicate via email, phone, and in-person with clients, elected officials, and project stakeholders;
- A strong sense of ownership in your work and the ability to follow-through on tasks, even when you are waiting for others to finish with their piece of the puzzle.
- A passion for writing about legal concepts in a manner that can be understood by attorneys and laypeople alike;
- Knowledge of contracts and non-profit corporation law; and
- Advanced knowledge using Lexis Advance and Microsoft Word, including mail merge templates.

Requirements & Application
Preference will be given to candidates that meet one of the requirements below, as well as reside in the Sacramento area:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal studies and a minimum of one year paralegal experience in the field; or
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any subject, an Associate’s Degree in paralegal studies and, a minimum of one year paralegal experience in the field; or
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any subject, a minimum of two years’ paralegal experience in the field with a written 6450 declaration from an attorney with whom you’ve worked; or
- An Associate’s Degree in paralegal studies and a minimum of two years’ paralegal experience in the field.
Preference will be given to candidates with paralegal certificates from ABA-approved programs and/or voluntary designations including RP or CLA. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in project management, nonprofit corporations, municipal law, government relations, and/or legislative experience (assessment districts, open meeting laws and public record laws).

Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Benefits include sick time, medical, dental and vision insurance after 30 days and vacation after 90 days, and at least 11 paid holidays per year. Employees will be eligible for 401k after one year. Compensation between $21-$29 per hour, DOE. This is a hybrid role, with attendance required in our Sacramento office Tuesday-Thursday.
