The Role
The Financial Controller oversees all finance, accounting, and reporting operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of our annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and department leads
- Monitor monthly financial performance against budget and provide regular variance analysis and forecasting
- Develop financial models to support decision-making and long-term planning
- Provide financial insight to support grant proposals, program design, and organizational strategy
- Maintain accurate and timely posting of all revenue and expenses
- Maintain and enhance financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all nonprofit-specific accounting standards
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of the IRS Form 990 and all required state and federal tax filings and reports
- Build and maintain financial dashboards and metrics
- Provide narrative insights alongside financial reports to inform leadership decision-making
- Identify and implement technology solutions that streamline financial operations
Qualifications
- A CPA degree with primary experience in non-profit taxes
- Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in accounting software and tools
- Alignment with our mission and values
- Ability to work onsite in Asheville, NC is a plus but not required (will consider relocation for the right candidate)
