Job Overview
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), under new management, is a national organization dedicated to training and educating U.S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions. The CMP is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) corporation that places its highest priority on serving youth through gun safety and marksmanship activities that encourage personal growth and build life skills. We are currently seeking a Shipping Clerk to join our team.
Position Title: Shipping Clerk
Position Location: CMP South, 1470 Sentinel Drive, Anniston, AL
FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt
Reports To: Shipping Supervisor
Position Summary:
Performs warehousing duties and process shipping orders for all categories of items.
Position Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the position include:
- · Receives pick tickets for rifles, parts, ammunition, and other categories of items.
- Selects items for shipment.
- · Inputs shipping information into CMP operating system and FedEx / postal systems.
- · Packages and labels outgoing cartons.
- · Contacts customers to resolve problems.
- · Responds to customer inquiries.
- · Assists in loading, unloading, storage, inventory, and other warehouse operations.
- · Operates forklift or other equipment when necessary.
- · Works as sales representative in CMP retail stores as needed.
- Relationships:
Reports to Distribution Supervisor: Work is performed under the technical supervision of supervisor who issues general work assignments and explains major changes in procedures. Employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instruction, but refers unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to supervisor or higher graded employee. Review of work is based on results achieved including the meeting of schedules and priorities, orderliness of packing area, and customer service effectiveness.
Level & Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are usually with other CMP employees. Purpose of contacts is to share information. Contacts with customers are to exchange information and resolve problems.
Supervisory Responsibility: None, but employees at this level train and spot check work of lower graded employees.
Guidelines Available to Employee: Specific, detailed guidelines covering all important aspects of the work are provided. They include written scope of work, technical manuals, and other reference material.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: Frequently lifts rifles and other items weighing 9-25 pounds. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 50 lbs with assistance of other employees. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing on concrete floor or other hard surfaces. Works in shop that is well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Exposed to oil and grease when handling rifles and parts. Frequently exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from sharp edges of metal. 10% of work is done seated at computer terminal.
Complexity Level: Low. Work includes a variety of detailed tasks that are clear-cut, directly related, and concerned with warehousing and shipping operations.
Scope & Effect: Low. The work involves the performance of specific, routine operations that include a few separate tasks and procedures. The work affects the timeliness of order-ship time and accuracy of meeting customer requirements and degree of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Education / Experience: High School diploma or equivalent or two years employment performing either warehouse or clerical duties.
Skills / Training: Work at this level requires knowledge of commonly applied rules or procedures typically requiring limited training and experience. Training in use of personal computer or terminal operation is used for basic entry and retrieval information. Training in use of materiel handling equipment and proper packaging methods.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to select correct items for shipping and determine best method of packaging.
