STARTING AT $42,459, PURSUANT TO THE RULES OF THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The Insurance Clerk is directly responsible to the Director of Insurance and performs various duties
related to the processing of insurance applications, billings and claims.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Communicates with insured members (active and retirees), beneficiaries of insured members,
attorney’s, funeral homes/funding companies, social workers/nursing homes, local and unit officers,
CSEA staff, and insurance broker via telephone and written correspondence concerning group
insurances (application, cancellation, direct bill payments, etc.).
2. Processes daily mail and correspondence. Monitors and responds to inquiries received via
department email, fax and voice mail.
3. Ensures term life insurance applications are complete and all required documents have been
received.
4. Processes term life insurance applications and generates notice to payroll.
5. Processes insurance cancellations, insurance refunds, termination, or reinstatement of
coverage.
6. Ensures that all information received on change of beneficiary forms is accurate and complete
before entering on the CIS Insurance Screen.
7. Scans insurance forms to the data base and updates weekly spreadsheet of insurance
deductions to confirm status with the ME&A Department.
8. Researches members inquiries and information necessary to process death claims, various
notices, insurance cancellations, direct billing, and changes of beneficiary.
9. Reviews member accounts and makes necessary corrections, including; updates to members’
information
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalency.
Must have good telephone manner, strong grammar and spelling skills and ability to operate
standard alphanumeric keyboards.
Listening and customer service skills are particularly desirable.
Must successfully complete appropriate tests administered by the Human Resources Department.
Advancement to next grade level upon completion of two years of satisfactory performance as
determined by Department Head.
