Role Description This full-time Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Field Technician role is an on-site position based in Port Allen, LA. The SUE Field Technician assists in locating, identifying, and documenting underground utilities using various tools, equipment, and field techniques under the direction of senior staff. Daily tasks include setting up and operating field equipment, marking utility locations, collecting and recording data, and supporting survey and engineering teams with accurate field information. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions, following safety procedures, and communicating clearly with team members and supervisors. The technician also helps maintain equipment, completes required field reports, and may assist with traffic control and site setup to ensure safe and efficient field operations.
Qualifications
- Ability to work safely around underground utilities and basic understanding of utility systems and field locating practices.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors, coworkers, and, when needed, clients or the public.
- Capability to participate in and follow training programs related to safety, equipment use, and field procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational coursework in construction, surveying, or utilities is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to job sites as needed.
- Comfort working outdoors, standing for extended periods, and lifting moderate loads while following safety guidelines.
- Attention to detail, dependability, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a structured field environment.
