Civic Nebraska

Creating a more modern and robust democracy for all Nebraskans.

Through Civic Nebraska’s Civic Health Program, we work to fortify our state’s civic fabric with training and programming for towns, cities, neighborhoods, and citizens. We support people to be connected, informed, and engaged in their communities and state – because when we are connected to one another and to institutions, we are better positioned to solve local problems. Our civic health team grounds this work in an asset-based community development approach – building solutions from gifts, strengths, and aspirations of community members themselves.

The Civic Health Organizer supports communities to tend to their civic health through four pillars of work: building Nebraskans’ knowledge of local institutions and processes, expanding access to participate in civic life, repairing trust in each other and in our institutions, and supporting civic action on the issues and opportunities that matter to everyday Nebraskans.

As a Civic Health Community Organizer you get to

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community groups, advocacy organizations, and city departments.
  • Represent Civic Nebraska at community meetings and tabling events to promote relevant initiatives.
  • Recruit, cultivate, and train grassroots advocates to build community, navigate local and state government systems, and organize their communities for positive change.
  • Connect community members to resources to address individual and structural concerns.
  • Serve on the Lincoln Community Builder Coalition, a coalition that awards Strong Neighborhoods Grants to Lincolnites who are building community. Provides 1:1 support to grant awardees to foster skill building in resident leaders and support coalition-hosted trainings and social events.

    • Seek out, schedule, and facilitate introductory and advanced workshops about civic health and civil discourse
    • Maintain communication with workshop participants prior to and after event
    • Coordinate workshop event logistics such as planning event location, food/snacks/beverages, workshop materials, etc.
  • Distribute toolkits, resources, and materials to advance Civic Nebraska and civic health initiatives in coordination with Civic Health Program Manager, Rural Civic Health Program Manager, Director of Civic Health, and other Civic Nebraska programs.
  • Provide logistical support and coaching for resident-driven projects, such as block parties, walk audits, community conversations, and other projects that advance civic health within and across neighborhoods.
  • Foster leadership development in neighborhood groups and support community-led initiatives.
  • Assist with collaborative opportunities with Civic Action and Civic Education.
