Civan Lasers develops high-power Dynamic Beam Lasers for advanced welding applications. As the company expands in North America, this role will help build and support a world-class service organization focused on customer success, system reliability, and rapid technical support.
Position Overview
The Service Engineer is responsible for installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support of Civan laser systems at customer sites across North America. This role serves as the primary technical interface with customers throughout the equipment lifecycle, ensuring reliable operation and high customer satisfaction.
The position requires frequent travel to customer facilities and hands-on work with electrical, mechanical, optical, and software systems. When not traveling, the Service Engineer will support the Greenfield Service Center with repairs, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and validate Civan laser systems at customer sites.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and upgrades on laser systems.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, optical, cooling, software, controls, and process-related issues both onsite and remotely.
- Lead customer acceptance testing and ensure successful system handover.
- Provide technical support by phone, email, and remote diagnostics.
- Train customer operators and maintenance personnel on system operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety.
- Plan and coordinate all service activities, including scheduling, logistics, spare parts, tooling, and customer communication.
- Maintain the Greenfield Service Center, including service equipment, spare parts inventory, calibration, and repair procedures.
- Support installation planning, including site readiness reviews, utility requirements, risk assessments, and installation schedules.
- Document all service activities, technical findings, repairs, and customer interactions using company reporting systems.
- Work closely with Engineering, Applications, Manufacturing, and Product Management to communicate field issues and support continuous product improvement.
- Assist in developing service manuals, troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures, and training documentation.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), system verification, and internal equipment testing.
- Support customer demonstrations, application lab activities, and laser operation when not traveling.
- Represent Civan Lasers professionally while building strong long-term customer relationships.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness and ensure compliance with laser safety and customer site requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Laser Engineering, Mechatronics, Optics, Photonics, or a related technical field. Equivalent hands-on experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of field service, technical service, industrial equipment installation, or similar experience.
- Experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, or servicing complex industrial equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, cooling, optical, and control systems.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to travel frequently throughout North America (up to 50–70% travel).
- Ability to lift equipment, work in industrial environments, and safely perform field service activities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel internationally when required.
